Scheme 2 shows possible structures for fragments from 24:0 Sphingomyelin. Although 24:1 SPM is more common, the following structures are given to demonstrate how SPM can be differentiated from DHS using the long-chain base (LCB) and fatty acid (FA) related fragment ions. Compare to Scheme 3. |
